which took place in November 1997 between sax men Mike Gray and Keith Crane is now immortalised on our new Telford Jazz page, where you can hear two bands for the price of one: Shrewsbury-based Green Suitcase and, of course, 3 In A Bar.
As avid followers of this blog will know, 3 In A Bar (led by Mike) and Meantime (led by Keith) were the two bands that kicked off the Telford Jazz sessions at The Pheasant, Admaston in January 1996. By the time of this session Meantime was sadly defunct and Keith had become one the elite team of musicians who frequently swelled 3 In A Bar's ranks, and it is the earliest recording of them playing together. The rest of the band were Brian Jones (keyboard); Tim Jones (double bass); Tony Small (drums); and vocalist Beki Grace.
Tim in particular enjoyed the evening - he got paid twice because he was also bass guitarist with the second band of the evening, Green Suitcase, led by reedman Julian Brook and featuring the vocals of his wife Carol Brook. Trumpeter John Buckley, guitarist Charlie Mason and drummer Larry Tench completed the line-up.
Many of the later Telford Jazz presentations at The Pheasant were recorded and will eventually be added to the page.
